moving back into the hacienda

not sure who decided it was a good idea to renovate whilst pregnant..... probably me but i certainly don't recommend it. at least don't live in the place whilst doing it. why did i think it would be ok to sleep with the red backs in the garage in the middle of winter...... that was never going to work. the major thing i really underestimated was the dust.....gyprock dust, orange terracotta dust from the tiles, dust from grinding the slab, dust from demolishing walls...... dust was miraculously settling on every horizontal (and vertical! (how is that even possible?!)) surface despite my daily cleaning efforts. i didn't survive long..... don't think it was even a week. didn't realise i was such a princess. luckily for us we had some super nice friends around the corner who adopted us; ran me hot baths, showered us with tasty homemade treats and even helped with the construction. gem and mike you are our saviours.

so, the cabinets are in, appliances installed, lights fitted, kitchen boxes are being unpacked and neglected dusty furniture is making it's way back into the hacienda. 3 months of cooking in the laundry and living out of our bedroom are over!

i underestimated the need to have a comfy place to relax and socialise when you come home from work that's not the bedroom floor. i'm sorry modular lounge with super comfy chaise you have been under appreciated in the past.

so, this is where we leave the hacienda for 2 weeks in france to recover, recuperate and regroup!

tissue paper tassels

always the last to jump on the bandwagon, i have recently discovered the latest craze to hit the arts and crafts corner- tissue paper tassels!

you can purchase a celebrity version online thanks to the great people at confetti system (unfortunately they don't seem to ship to australia) or find out how to make them here; or for the outdoorsy types try this version made out of fabric.

bask in their glorious tasselness......

going back in time

and we're back..... so we are currently adding the final touches to the kitchen but for the moment we will go back in time and fill in the gaps. so, last post we were installing the kitchen cabinets......
the cornos bagsing a place in the new pantry
installing the island bench

the timber bench has arrived and weighs as much as my car- requiring a small troupe of radiographers to install it at midnight (before the plumber arrives at 7am!)

3 days later..... a 'sort of' kitchen

renovation slump and concrete floors

apologies for our absence, we have been on a small 'hiatus' from the renovations. after almost 2 weeks on holiday in the stunning south island of new zealand and 2 weeks being adopted by some fabulous friends- we are back in the hacienda!

a quick update: we are abut 2 weeks behind schedule- builder has finished (all walls removed, gyprock complete and doors and windows in place). kitchen is ready to be installed however the stalling point is the floors. we are trying to get concrete floors done asap without much success. ideally we would like polished concrete floors however this is not possible with our existing slab so need to work out a solution of either troweled coloured concrete or epoxy paint..... stay tuned for the answer.

so this is what the living room and kitchen looks like atm.......
and for some concrete floor inspiration..................
